Hoa Binh: The First English Lesson with Classbook

In 10/10/2014, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in collaboration with Intel Vietnam presented the modern classroom using digital textbook Classbook for Secondary School Dich Giao, Dich Giao commune, Tan Lap district, Hoa Binh province.

Following 02 events of presenting classrooms using digital textbooks Classbook in Thai Binh ( 8/2014) and Nghe An ( 9/2014), the event in Hoa Binh is the 3rd achievement in the process of implementing commitment of Intel and its partners to accompanying the program “Computers for life” launched by MIC  in 3/2014 in Thai Nguyen.

The presenting ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong, Director of Hoa Binh Department of Information and Communications – Nguyen Hoang Thu, representative from Department of International Cooperation, Intel Vietnam, Tinhvan Technology JSC, Education eBooks Corporation under Vietnam Publishing House and the leaders of Hoa Binh province.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong hoped that the school would put Classbook classrooms into use effectively

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong expressed his emotion when representing MIC and the businesses to present teachers and students of secondary school Dich Giao such a meaningful gift as the interactive classroom with 20 digital textbooks Classbook. Deputy Minister hoped that this modern educational device would have a positive contribution to improving the quality of teaching and learning for teachers and students in the school.

7A students eagerly joined group discussion method with digital textbook Classbook

The highlight of the program lies in the sample lesson using digital textbook Classbook, applying for English subject of grade 7. This is the first time the program has brought the solution of teaching and learning with interaction between teachers and students into an English lesson in a school. With digital textbook Classbook, students can use all the functions of automatically digital dictionary or sample pronunciation of each word, sentence, and conversation with native voices only with a touch. This is a particularly smart function to help students to practice listening- speaking skills effectively. In addition, when connecting to the Internet, digital textbook provides interactive training – learning solution, allowing students to do homework directly on the test and teachers can immediately score to evaluate student’s comprehension.

As directly teaching an English lesson with digital textbook Classbook, Mr Pham Trung Thanh – teacher of English in Secondary School Dich Giao, said: “The students in the school are mainly Muong people with difficult learning condition. Therefore, the digital textbook Classbook has really become a very meaningful gift. Instead of using traditional textbooks in English with the tape, radio, printed dictionaries, now students can learn English effectively with a single device. Features: look-up, meaning translation, word memorization, quizzes, direct interaction with teachers, etc make students more interested in English and learn the lessons more effectively. After experiencing this device, I believe Classbook will become a device providing an effective teaching and learning method not only in English, but also in all subjects in school. “

With the majority of students in Dich Giao School, this is the first time they have accessed to an digital device with a touch screen as Classbook. Despite being initially nervous and a little strange, students have grasped how to use new learning tools very quickly and have become confident to participate in class activities. Bui Thi Thao, a 7A student said: “Classbook supports me to learn more easily and access many materials to enhance my knowledge. As for English, Classbook helps me to pronounce correctly and study better. “Another student excitedly said:” In today lesson, I like the group games the best. We have never studied this way. “

Interactive classrooms using digital textbook Classbook is a technology solution contributing to detail the policy of basic innovation and comprehensive education of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET). With preloaded content, including 300 digital textbooks under standard program of Ministry of Education and Training, for 03 levels, namely primary, secondary and high school, digital textbooks are not only a digitization of traditional textbooks but also a combination with multimedia content such as high quality audios, images, and illustrating video clips or the simulation application, virtual experiments,etc which makes knowledge become intuitive and vivid that users can easily interact while learning.

Up to now, digital textbook Classbook has been presented in 25 provinces across the country which is being used by more than 10,000 teachers and students. With features and benefits having been confirmed in improving the quality of teaching and learning, there have been now 100 schools deploying and applying in the areas such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong and other localities.
